Jim Miller receives White First Citizen of the College Award

Jim Miller was named the 19th recipient of the Harold and Eva White First Citizen of the College Award during North Central College's Commencement exercises.

Naperville resident and Director of Athletics Jim Miller was named the 19th recipient of the Harold and Eva White First Citizen of the College Award during North Central College's Commencement exercises on June 12.

The First Citizen of the College Award recognizes a student, faculty or staff member who exemplifies the best of North Central College and honors a "unique spirit and legacy," that of Harold and Eva White, longtime editors and publishers of The Naperville Sun and alumni of the College.

Senior Nick Robinson, who played shortstop for the conference champion Cardinals this season, has been drafted by the Boston Red Sox, according to a report. Robinson, the son of Red Sox Texas-area scout Jim Robinson, likely will sign with the organization and begin his career with the Lowell Spinners, SoxProspects.com reports. Robinson batted .427 with 56 runs scored and set new North Central records for hits (76) and at-bats (178) this season, finishing among the Cardinals' career top 10 in hits (199), at-bats (560), runs (123), total bases (245) and triples (7).

During the end-of-year rally at Championship Plaza on June 3, student-athletes who participated in national tournaments this year heard congratulations from President Wilde and Al Carius, longtime head coach of the men’s cross country and track and field programs. “There’s never been a year as good as this one for North Central athletics,” Wilde told student-athletes. “It begins with you and with a team vision that extends to study halls, the faculty and the whole community.”

June 3, 2010—North Central College student-athletes are celebrating a rare “triple crown” of national championships.

The Cardinals completed their sweep of national titles on May 29 by winning the 2010 NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field National Championship in Berea, Ohio, becoming just the second team in Division III history to sweep the national cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field championships in one academic year.

Join our student-athletes in celebrating the College’s three national championships this year in men’s cross country, men’s indoor track & field and men’s outdoor track & field. The celebration begins at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3, in Merner Field House. President Harold R. Wilde and head coach Al Carius will give some remarks, and student-athletes will be recognized for their academic and athletic achievements. Go Cards!

The Cardinal men’s track and field team claimed the final jewel of a rare triple crown May 29 as the team protected a huge early lead and won the program’s 20th national title at the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships. The victory makes North Central just the second team in Division III history to sweep the national cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field championships in one academic year.

The CCIW head baseball coaches voted North Central’s head coach John Fitzgerald as the 2010 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Baseball Coach of the Year. His third year of coaching for the Cardinals, Fitzgerald led his team to an overall record of 31-11 and won the CCIW title with an in-conference record of 17-4. More

Diane Anstine—associate professor and chair of economics, Ruge Fellow and Faculty Athletic Representative—was selected as a 2010 NCAA Division III Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) Fellow and will be attending the Division III FAR Fellows Institute in October. She was selected from more than 450 FARs in Division III schools nationwide. Anstine was nominated by CCIW’s commissioner because of her work at North Central and its faculty mentor program and her leadership and work within the conference and NCAA.

The men’s track and field team has a total of 13 entries in seven events at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in Berea, Ohio, including three that won indoor national championships in March. More For the women, three student-athletes will be going to the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships May 27-29.


College hosts Special Olympics Spring Games on April 25

The public is welcome to cheer athletes as they compete in the Special Olympics Illinois Northeastern Area 2 Spring Games April 25 at North Central College.

Families, volunteers and spectators will cheer on runners, shot-putters and other athletes as they compete in the 2010 Special Olympics Illinois Northeastern Area 2 Spring Games from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at North Central College.
