Oct. 20, 2011—A new book celebrates the 150-year history of North Central College.

The book, “North Central College: 150 Years. A Promising Start.” traces the College’s history from the founders who established the school in 1861 through present day.

NCTV to air live broadcasts of three North Central College football games

Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) will air live broadcasts of three upcoming regular-season North Central College football games.

Viewers can catch the Cardinals in action on NCTV17 when North Central hosts Augustana College at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8; Wheaton College at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5; and North Park University for its Sesquicentennial Homecoming game at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

The live broadcasts of the games will be hosted by Alex Symonds and 2011 North Central College graduate Marc Dahlquist. Five cameras will be used in the broadcasts.

North Central College Residence Hall/Recreation Center earns design awards

North Central College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center has earned two construction awards for its sustainable design.

Sept. 15, 2011—North Central College’s innovative and environmentally friendly Residence Hall/Recreation Center has earned two construction awards for its sustainable design.

The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) awarded the facility the 2011 honor for Best Sustainable Design. The Res/Rec Center also received an honorable mention in the Harry H. Edwards Industry Advancement Award category.

The U.S. Green Building Council awarded LEED Silver Certification to North Central’s innovative and environmentally friendly Residence Hall/Recreation Center.

Sept. 7, 2011—The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded LEED Silver Certification to North Central College’s innovative and environmentally friendly Residence Hall/Recreation Center (Res/Rec).

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

The athletics department has begun accepting donations of new and used school supplies as part of its Wings at Their Feet Back to School Supply Drive—now in its eighth year. All types of school/classroom supplies are welcome and donations are accepted through Sept. 30 in the College’s Athletics Office at Merner Field House or at these home athletics events:

•    Friday, Sept. 2—women’s soccer vs. Hope College, 7 p.m.

Student-athlete James Hoffman of Minooka is profiled in a Joliet Herald News article in which he talks about the upcoming 2012 track and field season and his interest in interactive media studies.

Hoffman will be begin his senior year as a Cardinal this fall and told his hometown paper he has a specific athletic goal in mind for his final year at North Central.

“I’d really, really like to qualify for nationals in the 400 hurdles,” he said.

Gillespie told his hometown newspaper he chose to play at North Central College because of the coaching staff, the quality education and because the College is halfway between his brothers in Chicago and his family in Geneseo.

Sanderson, of St. Louis, Mo., is entering his junior year. He was profiled Friday in the Blackhawks Daily, the team's front office newsletter. In the profile he answered questions about why he chose to attend North Central, what books he likes to read and where he'd like to retire.

Molly Link, a graduating senior and sociology major, was voted recipient of the Mark A. Reid Student Leadership Award by her senior classmates.

July 8, 2011—Molly Link, a graduating senior and sociology major from Batavia, Ill., was voted recipient of the Mark A. Reid Student Leadership Award by her senior classmates.

Each year, a deserving senior receives this award in honor of Mark Reid, a former student leader and president of North Central’s Student Association when he was killed in an auto accident in 1984.
