North Central College art exhibit showcases black and white photography

A collection of black and white photography by Larry Blackwood will be exhibited in “Opus Corvus” through Oct. 6 at North Central College.

A collection of black and white photography by Larry Blackwood featuring transcendent imagery of crows and ravens will be exhibited in “Opus Corvus” through Oct. 6 at North Central College.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the College’s Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St., Naperville. An artist reception will take place 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, where guests can meet Blackwood and discuss his work. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Princeton Review rates North Central among Best Midwestern Colleges

The Princeton Review has named North Central College among “The Best Midwestern Colleges.”

Aug. 19, 2011—The Princeton Review has named North Central College among “The Best Midwestern Colleges.”

The recognition is included in The Princeton Review’s 2012 edition of “The Best 376 Colleges.” Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges are profiled in the book, which also includes ranking lists of the top 20 schools in 62 categories based on the Princeton Review’s surveys of students attending the colleges.

Student-athlete James Hoffman of Minooka is profiled in a Joliet Herald News article in which he talks about the upcoming 2012 track and field season and his interest in interactive media studies.

Hoffman will be begin his senior year as a Cardinal this fall and told his hometown paper he has a specific athletic goal in mind for his final year at North Central.

“I’d really, really like to qualify for nationals in the 400 hurdles,” he said.

Gillespie told his hometown newspaper he chose to play at North Central College because of the coaching staff, the quality education and because the College is halfway between his brothers in Chicago and his family in Geneseo.

The exhibit was displayed Aug. 1 through Aug. 7 in the College's Schoenherr Gallery in the Fine Arts Center. More than 20 Monarch Landing residents exhibited their original artwork, including paintings, metal sculpture, fiber arts, photography and Japanese book-binding.

MAEd alumna Regina Leeberg named to administrative post

MAEd alumna Regina Leeberg is director of Pre K-5 Literacy and Social Studies at Valley View School District 365U.

Regina Leeberg, who earned her master’s of education (MAEd) degree in leadership and administration at North Central College, is director of Pre K-5 Literacy and Social Studies at Valley View School District (VVSD) 365U, which serves Bolingbrook and Romeoville.

Her newly created position with VVSD will place Leeberg in direct contact with teachers and building principals as she serves as a resource to help them help students achieve.
