April 22, 2011—The Princeton Review has named North Central College among the most environmentally responsible colleges in North America.

The education services company in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) selected North Central College for inclusion in the second annual edition of “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 311 Green Colleges: 2011 Edition.”

Life in Japan is gradually returning to normal for North Central College student Ereka Funkhouser.

Funkhouser—a junior majoring in Japanese and classical civilization—studies at Iwate University in Morioka, a town of about 300,000 located in the Iwate Prefecture. She was shaken by the March 11 earthquake, but her school 40 miles from the coast was not directly impacted by the devastating tsunami.

North Central College is pledging to achieve the state’s highest recognition for energy-saving and environmentally friendly initiatives.

April 20, 2011—North Central College is pledging to achieve the state’s highest recognition for energy-saving and environmentally friendly initiatives by being among the first institutions of higher education in Illinois to seek gold status under a new Sustainability Compact.

College President Harold R. Wilde signed the compact April 18, saying the pledge is a fitting part of North Central’s yearlong celebration of its Sesquicentennial.

North Central will observe Earth Day 2011 with the public signing of a new Sustainability Compact at 3 p.m. Monday, April 18, in WAC.

April 14, 2011—North Central College will observe Earth Day 2011 with the public signing of a new Sustainability Compact in which the College will pledge to strive toward achieving significant green initiatives within the next five years.

March 30, 2011—Award-winning microbiologist Dr. Myron Wentz, founder of USANA Health Sciences, returns to his alma mater North Central College as part of a nationwide book tour of “The Healthy Home,” released in March through Vanguard Publishing. Co-authored with his son Dave Wentz, USANA Health Sciences CEO, the new book offers simple solutions for making homes healthier.

International programs hosts symposium with speakers, faculty panels

North Central presents “Contemporary India and the Environment” symposium on April 14 as part of yearlong international focus on India, the environment.

April 6, 2011—As part of its yearlong international focus, North Central College will present a symposium titled “Contemporary India and the Environment” on Thursday, April 14.

Guest speakers and North Central faculty and students will give presentations. An Indian dance performance and Indian supper are also part of the symposium, presented by the College’s Office of International Programs.
