Fuentes, professor of composition and theory at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., spoke about music’s inherent connection to the human experience in his address, “Do You Hear What I Hear? Listening as Research,” May 14 in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall.

The inauguration occurs during Cornerstone Week, May 13-19, an annual celebration that commemorates the College’s 1870 move to Naperville from Plainfield and the laying of the cornerstone for Old Main. Some events will be webcast live. The week includes the following events:

What an honor to write this column as the 10th president of North Central College!

My family and I have had a great time getting to know the College over the last few months. I’ve learned very quickly that this is one busy campus—even in the middle of a Chicago winter. From the alumni track & field meet, basketball games and the International Festival, to the Martin Luther King prayer breakfast and Chicago Sinfonietta performance, we’ve enjoyed experiencing the diverse and enriching opportunities this campus offers.

North Central College President Dr. Troy D. Hammond aims to meet at least 1,000 alumni during his first weeks on the job.

North Central College’s 10th president, Troy D. Hammond, is hitting the road on a yearlong inaugural tour to meet with alumni and talk about the importance of alumni engagement in his vision for a brilliant future.

Hammond has set a personal goal to meet 1,000 alumni by the end of February and is eager to continue meeting alumni throughout his first year.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond officially began his duties on Tuesday, January 1, as the 10th president of North Central College. He was formerly the president of the energy services business at BlueStar Energy in Chicago. Hammond and his wife Sharlene have lived in Naperville with their four children since 2010.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond was introduced as the 10th president of North Central College to an audience of students, faculty, staff and community members.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond was introduced as the 10th president of North Central College Oct. 29 in Wentz Concert Hall to an audience of students, faculty, staff and community members.

Hammond, 45, will become just the 10th president in the school’s 151-year history on Jan. 1, when Dr. Harold R. Wilde retires.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond will be the 10th president in North Central College’s 151-year history.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond, a scientist, teacher and entrepreneur, will be North Central College’s next president, only the 10th in the school’s 151-year history. Board Chair Steven Hoeft ’73 announced the selection of Hammond after a unanimous vote of the College’s Board of Trustees.

"Dr. Hammond brings a wealth of experience to North Central College," says Hoeft. "He is uniquely equipped to lead this institution forward."
