A May 20 performance by the alternative rock band Switchfoot will be the first concert in North Central College’s Residence Hall/Recreation Center. The band Bottle of Justus will open.

On April 20, WFMT-FM 98.7 will broadcast a concert by violinist Rachel Barton Pine recorded last year in Wentz Concert Hall.

On April 20, 98.7WFMT—Chicago’s classical and fine arts radio station—will broadcast a concert by renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine recorded last year in North Central College’s acoustically stunning Wentz Concert Hall.

The concert will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Friday, April 20 and may be heard on the radio in the Chicago area at WFMT-FM 98.7 or online anywhere at wfmt.com/streaming.

The exhibit highlights the works of alumni who were students of Associate Professor of Art Barry Skurkis, whose own artwork also is featured in the display.

North Central College invites the public to the free premiere Feb. 6 of the fourth part of a documentary series produced with Naperville Community Television that chronicles the College’s 150-year history.

“A Student-Centered Community” is the fourth of the five-part documentary series “A Promising Start,” which commemorates the College’s Sesquicentennial. The segment will premiere at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in Madden Theatre at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

1960 Martin Luther King visit inspired students to activism

Throughout its 150-year history North Central College has demonstrated its commitment to the principles of equality and nonviolence.

During January, North Central College celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a week of events and activities. As part of a yearlong celebration of its Sesquicentennial, the College’s 2012 observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Week is particularly significant.

Connelly, Illinois House honor North Central College with Sesquicentennial resolution

The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates North Central College on its Sesquicentennial in a resolution sponsored by state Rep. Michael Connelly.

Dec. 19, 2011—The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates North Central College on its Sesquicentennial in a resolution sponsored by Michael Connelly, 48th District state representative.

The resolution commemorating the 150th anniversary of the College’s founding was adopted by the 97th General Assembly. Connelly, R-Naperville, presented a copy of the resolution to Harold R. Wilde, North Central College president, in December.

Naper Settlement exhibits College history

Naper Settlement’s Heritage Gallery continues to host the exhibit “150 Years: A Promising Start,” which echoes the theme of the College’s Sesquicentennial celebration. “It was  fascinating to collaborate with Naper Settlement on the development of this exhibit,” says Kim Butler, College archivist. “It’s a wonderful facility showcasing the College’s history.”
