Students will travel to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, July 5-12, to serve with Casa de los Angeles, a nonprofit organization that provides a medical clinic, transitional housing, daycare facilities and other services for poor working mothers. North Central’s Catholic Campus Minister Kevin O'Donnell and eight students will help in the daycare centers and work on renovation and construction projects in various facilities.

Jack Shindler, professor of English and director of international programs, and Kimberly Larsson, assistant to the director of international programs, gave presentations at the Association of International Educators (NAFSA) Conference June 1-4, in Kansas City, Mo. Some 7,000 educators attended worldwide. Shindler was chosen from among 11 other presenters nationwide to give his session at the international conference.


Students serve summer long, around the world

From San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, to Nairobi, Kenya, to San Pablo City in the Philippines, North Central students wiill travel to do service projects.

Each summer, students at North Central College head to places around the world to serve alongside nonprofit organizations and people in disadvantaged communities. This summer, they'll work in three communities in Mexico, Kenya and the Philippines.

Each summer, the College introduces new students to college life through its Premier Scholars program. The campus community is invited to meet 26 first-year students at the annual Premier Ice Cream Social Thursday, June 24, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Old Main lawn. Rain location is the second floor of White Activities Center. The Premier Scholars will be taking classes in English, math, psychology and speech, and living and working on campus June 18 through July 16. Students head to Italy to experience culture, travel abroad

Each June after Commencement, Robert Moussetis, associate professor of international business, takes students on a trip abroad. This year, he and 20 others will visit Italy from June 13 to 23 with a goal of seeing as many sites and experiencing as much culture, art, architecture, history and current challenges as possible during their visit. They will travel to Venice, Florence (photo), Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Amalfi and the island of Capri. Often called the “travelin’ man,” Moussetis loves to travel and has led many D-Term and summer trips abroad.

Chris Smith ’10 was named the recipient of the Mark A. Reid Student Leadership Award at Commencement, by vote of the senior class. “Chris is a respected leader in every sense and has been deeply committed to making this campus a better place,” said President Wilde in presenting the award.
