May 22, 2012—Amanda Marek of Bridgeview was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Management Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.
Marek is a junior with majors in management and entrepreneurship/small business management and minors in finance and economics at North Central College. She is the daughter of Patricia and Steven Marek and is a 2009 graduate of Oak Lawn Community High School.
She has been active in Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) since her first year at North Central and has managed initiatives in NCC’s Best, the business side of SIFE that involves marketing and selling of Conscious Bean coffee grown in Guatemala and several global merchandise suppliers and their products. She traveled to Guatemala to work on a film project about the country’s economy and the impact entrepreneurial businesses like maize farming, textile production and sustainable tourism can have.
A student-athlete, Marek competed on the College’s women’s cross country and track and field teams. Each year as a student, she participated in the Relay for Life fundraiser and her name has regularly appeared on the College’s Dean’s List, which recognizes students with high academic achievement.
