Andrew Smith, son of Meri and David White, of Naperville was awarded the Outstanding Major in English Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.
A senior, Andrew is majoring in English writing at North Central College. He is a graduate of Naperville Central High School.
Andrew recently presented research titled “Fellowship vs. Individualism in the Western” at the 2013 National Conference on Undergraduate Research in La Crosse, Wis. He also gave an oral presentation titled “No Country for Old Men: Rethinking Individualism in the Western” during the College’s 2013 Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research.
Andrew serves as editor of the NC Review, the College’s literary magazine, and his name regularly appears on the Dean’s List. He enjoys serving as a tutor for people with special needs.
After graduation in June, Andrew will pursue a graduate degree in English at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., and plans to study disability studies and Western literature.
