May 21, 2012—Anna Laky of Villa Park was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Chemistry Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.
Laky is a senior majoring in chemistry with minors in secondary education and psychology at North Central College. She is the daughter of Michael and Susan Laky and is a 2008 graduate of Willowbrook High School. After graduating from North Central in June, she plans to teach high school chemistry.
She has been involved with the College’s Junior/Senior Scholars program, teaching math and science to middle school students from East Aurora and Chicago. North Central’s Junior/Senior Scholars summer camp is a college readiness program that partners with high-need elementary and secondary schools in Aurora and Chicago. She was among a group of North Central College education students that gave a presentation titled “Leaning to Teach Math and Science.”
The summer after her sophomore year, she worked as a Pre-Service Teaching intern with Argonne National Laboratory in Argonne, Ill.
In the past four years, she also has participated in the North Central Concert Winds ensemble and the Red Noise Pep Band.
