Ron Smith '75

Ron Smith published “Eight Days a Week: Births, Deaths and Events Each Day in Oldies History,” which was released May 8. Featuring a foreword by broadcasting legend Dick Biondi, the book lists significant happenings for each day of the year and includes caricatures of famous musicians. He also published four reference books about the local music charts of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. While enrolled at North Central College, he was a disc jockey for WONC-FM in 1975 and began collecting music history tidbits.

Pat Shanower is scheduled to talk with local radio host Scott Mackay at about 7:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9. on WERV-FM 95.9 (The River) about the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks that claimed the life of her son, Cmdr. Dan Shanower.
Navy Cmdr. Dan Shanower was in his Pentagon office the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, and died in the attack on Washington, D.C. Naperville's 9/11 memorial is named in his honor.

The U.S. Green Building Council awarded LEED Silver Certification to North Central’s innovative and environmentally friendly Residence Hall/Recreation Center.

Sept. 7, 2011—The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has awarded LEED Silver Certification to North Central College’s innovative and environmentally friendly Residence Hall/Recreation Center (Res/Rec).

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
