Neil Nicholson, North Central College assistant professor of mathematics, had an article published in the Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications.

Neil R. Nicholson, North Central College assistant professor of mathematics, recently had an article published in the Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications. His article, titled “Piecewise-Linear Virtual Knots,” both investigates how various classical knot theory results carry over to the space of virtual knots and classifies piecewise-linear virtual knots up to edge index six.

North Central College’s Jack Shindler, professor of English and director of international programs, and Kelly Pilleux, international student advisor, presented independent sessions at NAFSA, the Association of International Educators Region V annual conference at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Nov. 2-4. NAFSA Region V is composed of Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin and has approximately 800 members representing more than 250 institutions.

Nov. 29, 2011—During North Central College’s D-Term—a three-week period between Thanksgiving and Christmas—students have a wide range of opportunities to choose from to enhance and expand their educational experiences. Opportunities range from service to academic to travel and intramural sports, and locations span from across the country to overseas to the Chicago area and campus.

Fans of North Central College athletics can vote for defensive tackle Peter Bulandr ’12 to receive the premier individual award in NCAA Division III football, the Gagliardi Trophy. Click here to vote; the deadline for voting is noon Monday, Dec. 5.

Bulandr, a senior economics major, is one of 10 finalists for this year's award, which has been presented since 1993 in recognition of excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

The talk show host, political commentator and entrepreneur will deliver his presentation, “America I AM,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19 in Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. North Central College alumni outpaced the field of 7,500 runners Thursday at the annual Turkey Trot 5K sponsored by the Naperville Noon Lions Club.

North Central College alumni outpaced the field of 7,500 runners Thursday at the annual Turkey Trot 5K sponsored by the Naperville Noon Lions Club.

Kyle Brady '10, who won a national championship as a Cardinal, repeated as first-place finisher among all men by completing the course in a time of 14:52. He's won three of the six Thanksgiving Day races in which he's run, he told the Daily Herald.

For the second time in three years North Central College men’s cross country head coach Al Carius was honored Nov. 23 by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA), winning the 2011 NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year Award.

North Central College President Harold R. Wilde will narrate when the Chicago Chamber Musicians brass ensemble performs some of the greatest holiday compositions Dec. 9 at the College.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, in the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
