The new site connects with potential international students in the Chinese language and includes information they want to know about the College, its location, campus life, how to apply and more.

North Central student journalists earn Illinois College Press Association awards

Student journalists from North Central College have earned three awards for excellence from the Illinois College Press Association (ICPA).

Feb. 29, 2012—Student journalists from North Central College have earned three awards for excellence from the Illinois College Press Association (ICPA).

The awards were announced at the ICPA’s annual conference Feb. 17-18 at the Double Tree Hotel in Chicago. College newspapers from throughout Illinois, ranging from those at small colleges to publications at large state universities, participated in the annual journalism contest. Entries are judged by professional editors who are members of the Illinois Press Association.

North Central College welcomes Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author Isabel Wilkerson to discuss her epic book “The Warmth of Other Suns.”

Author and journalist Isabel Wilkerson will discuss her book “The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration” on Feb. 29 at North Central College. The New York Times and national bestseller follows the story of African-American families leaving the Jim Crow South during the Great Migration.

Wilkerson will speak at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, in North Central College’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville. This event is free and open to the public.

North Central College alumnus Rafeal “Ray” Williams '95 has been honored with the African-American Male Image Award from the Knights of Peter Claver.

Feb. 28, 2012—North Central College alumnus Rafeal “Ray” Williams, class of 1995, has been honored with the African-American Male Image Award from the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary in Chicago.

“This is such an honor for me and our family, and I am humbled that the board of directors finds my contributions to society deserving of this honor,” Williams says. “This honor is a direct reflection of those around me in my development.”

Alumna wins Elementary School Principal of the Year award

North Central College alumna Kimberly Lisanby-Barber is named the 2012-2013 Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association.

Kimberly Lisanby-Barber, a 1977 graduate of North Central College and principal of Lincoln Elementary School in Spring Valley, has been named the 2012-2013 Elementary School Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association (IPA).

The award recognizes elementary school principals who have demonstrated a positive impact on their students and learning community. Horace Mann and the IPA announced the award in February.

College launches web page with information about presidential search

North Central College has launched a web page that contains information about the search for a new president.

The page, northcentralcollege.edu/content/presidential-search includes links to pages with additional information, including a description of the next steps in the process for choosing the nextr president. President Harold R. Wilde announced Feb. 17 he intends to retire on Dec. 31.

North Central College Director of Athletics Jim Miller '86 has announced the addition of Susan DeNigris '02 Kane to the Cardinals' staff as the new Assistant Director of Athletics.

Kane, who currently serves as North Central's Associate Director of Admission, will remain in that position until late spring. She replaces Stevie Baker-Watson, who had been with the department since 2007 and was recently named the Director of Athletics and Recreation at DePauw University (Ind.)

Cardinal men win CCIW basketball tourney, head to DIII championships

The men’s basketball team defeated Wheaton College, 75-58, in the championship game of the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament Feb. 25.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship on the line, North Central broke open a nip-and-tuck affair with a 26-5 second-half surge and claimed the second CCIW Tournament title since the institution of the event in 2006. The Cardinals have won the CCIW's regular-season and tournament titles in the same season for the first time.
