The men’s basketball team defeated Wheaton College, 75-58, in the championship game of the CCIW Men's Basketball Tournament Feb. 25.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship on the line, North Central broke open a nip-and-tuck affair with a 26-5 second-half surge and claimed the second CCIW Tournament title since the institution of the event in 2006. The Cardinals have won the CCIW's regular-season and tournament titles in the same season for the first time.

Wilde told the faculty that their input—as well as input from alumni, staff, students, the community at large and other constituencies—will be sought to determine the job description that will be created by the search committee and consultant charged with identifying candidates and making a recommendation to the Board. Trustees hope to vote on their choice for the next president in October, faculty were told.

A local restaurant will donate 15 percent of its sales Friday to a scholarship fund created in honor of North Central College alumnus Shaun Wild.

A local restaurant will donate 15 percent of its sales Friday to a scholarship fund created in honor of North Central College alumnus Shaun Wild.

Buffalo Wings & Rings, located at 1279 Rickert Drive, near 75th Street in Naperville, will donate 15 percent of the entire day's sales to the Shaun Wild Memorial Scholarship fund.

Wild taught second grade at Spring Brook Elementary School in Naperville. He graduated from the College in December and died Feb. 4 during a violent incident at a Naperville establishment.

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the North Central College men’s basketball team claimed its first outright College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship since 1990 with a 91-58 bludgeoning of Millikin University. The Cardinals (18-7, 12-2 CCIW) smothered Millikin with a furious first-half assault and set a single-game school record by making 15 three-pointers in securing the program's second straight conference title.

Matthew Krystal, North Central College assistant professor of anthropology, had his book, titled “Indigenous Dance and Dancing Indian,” published by University Press of Colorado in September 2011. The 360-page work is a cross-cultural, cross-ethnic and cross-national comparison of indigenous dance practices.

Accounting majors help community members with tax returns

Another record number of North Central students provide free income tax assistance for low income families and individuals at Loaves & Fishes pantry.

For several years, North Central students have participated in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, providing free federal and state income tax assistance for the elderly, non-English speaking individuals, and low income families and individuals earning less than $49,000. New this year, students are working in a new location, at Loaves & Fishes in Naperville, with opportunities to serve more people.

North Central College alumnus Eric Ilich ’04 has been named football coach at Hoffman Estates High School, the Daily Herald reports.

Ilich, who majored in physical education K-12 at North Central, has been an assistant football coach at Bartlett High School. Prior to being the North Central Cardinals' quarterback in 2004, he was quarterback for the first two years of Naperville’s Neuqua Valley High School in 1998-1999.
