The North Central College Board of Trustees has announced the members of the Presidential Search Committee. The committee is charged with presenting candidates to the Board of Trustees for election of the 10th president of the College.



Computer science students among top finishers at competition

North Central College students took top honors in advanced division at the 2012 ACCA regional programming competition hosted on campus Feb. 25.

North Central College hosted the 2012 Associated Colleges of the Chicagoland Area (ACCA) computer programming competition Feb. 25 in the College’s Carnegie Hall. Computer science students from North Central were among the top performers at the competition, including a four-person team that won first place in the advanced division.

North Central College remembers the Rev. George St. Angelo ’43

Former North Central College chaplain and alumnus Rev. George St. Angelo ’43 died Sunday, March 4, at age 90.

Rev. George St. Angelo, beloved College Chaplain from 1955 to 1966, passed away on Sunday, March 4. St. Angelo influenced a generation of North Central alumni who were coming to terms with the issues of civil rights, social justice and service to communities outside their comfort zone. Among his many accomplishments as chaplain was inviting important speakers to campus, including the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., James Farmer and Henry Kissinger. He frequently took students into Chicago to visit homeless shelters and missions and organized summer trips to Europe. St.

The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced March 5 the participants in the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships with North Central College qualifying seven individuals and two relays on the men's side while the women qualified two individuals.

Gerald Gems, North Central College professor of health and physical education, had his chapter, titled “Baseball, Invented Tradition, and Nationalistic Spirit,” published in “Myths and Milestones in the History of Sport,” which is edited by Stephen Wagg and published by Palgrave Macmillan. The book goes beyond the newsy versions of apparent turning points in sport history and explores these moments in a series of detailed and insightful studies.

Singer/songwriter David Mallett—one of America’s true original troubadours—will perform his songs on acoustic guitar and harmonica in an intimate setting May 4 at North Central College.

Mallett, a Maine-based artist whose career spans nearly 40 years, will perform at 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, in North Central College’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. North Central College establishes the Shaun Wild Memorial Fund

North Central College and family and friends of 2011 alumnus Shaun Wild have established the Shaun Wild Memorial Fund to honor his life and memory.

North Central College and family and friends of 2011 alumnus Shaun Wild, who died on Feb. 4, 2012, have established the Shaun Wild Memorial Fund to honor Shaun’s life and memory.

At North Central, Shaun majored in elementary education with minors in history and social studies, was president of the Student Leaders Association of Teacher Educators, a member of the student-athlete honor society and football team. After graduation, he taught second grade at Spring Brook Elementary School in Naperville.
