May 17, 2012—Luke Kinney of Aurora was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Religious Studies Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Kinney is a senior double-majoring in religious studies and English: Literature with a minor in English: Writing. He is the son of Paul Kinney and a graduate of Aurora West Senior High School.

After graduating from North Central in June, Kinney will pursue a master of divinity degree at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., on a full-ride scholarship awarded by the Kern Family Foundation.

Student wins top honors and tuition prize to law school

North Central College political science major Jennifer Rieger ’13 won second-place honors at contest and tuition waiver to attend John Marshall Law School.

North Central College political science major and junior Jennifer Rieger earned second-place honors and a tuition waiver to attend John Marshall Law School after competing at the law school’s annual National Undergraduate Diversity Mock Trial Competition April 13-14.

Some 60 top students from colleges and universities across the country met at Marshall’s Chicago campus to compete for the chance to win law school tuition waivers. Rieger’s second-place finish in the individual best advocate award netted her a $9,000 prize in tuition waivers to John Marshall.

Postema is a senior majoring in athletic training with a minor in psychology at North Central College. She is the daughter of Ronald and Elizabeth Postema and a graduate of Chicago Christian High School.

Frazzini is a senior majoring in exercise science. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Virginia Frazzini and a graduate of Carl Sandburg High School.

May 16, 2012—Alicia Zimmerman of Wheaton was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Student in Secondary Education Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.

Zimmerman is a senior majoring in physical education K-12, with minors in secondary education, health education and wellness. She is the daughter of Todd and Susan Zimmerman and a graduate of Wheaton-Warrenville South High School.

Zimmerman plans to student-teach in the fall, graduate from North Central in December and pursue a full-time teaching position.

Cox is a senior majoring in East Asian studies with a focus in Japanese at North Central College. She is the daughter of Tracy and Terri Cox and a graduate of Plainfield South High School.

North Central College alumnus Robert Taylor is one of 10 Chicago-area educators being honored with 2012 Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching.

May 16, 2012—North Central College alumnus Robert Taylor is one of 10 Chicago-area educators being honored as recipients of a prestigious 2012 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Taylor, who earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from North Central College in 2000, is a second-grade teacher at Central Road School in Community Consolidated School District 15 in Palatine.

District 15 announced Taylor was presented with the award May 9.

May 15, 2012—If you want to succeed at scientific research, you’ve got to be able to work well with others.

That was the advice North Central College students and others heard May 15 during the keynote address at the College’s 15th annual Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research from professor, pharmaceutical researcher and North Central alumna Heather Carlson ’91.
