Dr. Troy D. Hammond was introduced as the 10th president of North Central College Oct. 29 in Wentz Concert Hall to an audience of students, faculty, staff and community members.

Hammond, 45, will become just the 10th president in the school’s 151-year history on Jan. 1, when Dr. Harold R. Wilde retires.

Head coach Al Carius and his cross country program have one of the longest-running traditions of excellence in collegiate athletics.



Riverwalk Gateway Dedication

Community leaders join North Central College in formal dedication of the Riverwalk Gateway on Oct. 27 as part of Homecoming.

Community leaders joined with North Central College alumni, faculty, staff and students to officially dedicate the newly completed Riverwalk Gateway, which includes landscaping and stately stone pillars to mark the entryway to the south end of campus and a new pathway along the West Branch of the DuPage River.

President Harold Wilde acknowledged that many consider the Riverwalk— first constructed in 1981—as the “crown jewel of Naperville.”

Dr. Troy D. Hammond will be the 10th president in North Central College’s 151-year history.

Dr. Troy D. Hammond, a scientist, teacher and entrepreneur, will be North Central College’s next president, only the 10th in the school’s 151-year history. Board Chair Steven Hoeft ’73 announced the selection of Hammond after a unanimous vote of the College’s Board of Trustees.

"Dr. Hammond brings a wealth of experience to North Central College," says Hoeft. "He is uniquely equipped to lead this institution forward."

Middle East trip immerses students in complex issues

The historical, cultural and political significance of Israel and Palestine shaped the itinerary for a new student trip conducted by the Office of Ministry and Service in August. Immersion into both Israeli and Palestinian areas as well as tours of key biblical sites provided students and staff with life-changing experiences. The group used an independent tour company to access the different areas, many of which represented traditional pilgrimage sites.

Artists present papermaking workshop to connect veterans, civilians

North Central College’s art department will host the Combat Paper Project, a daylong artistic workshop involving veterans and artists, on Oct. 30.

North Central College’s art department will host the Combat Paper Project, an artistic collaboration initiated and presented by artists Drew Cameron and Drew Matott that involves veterans, artists and academic institutions.

Based out of art studios throughout the country, the Combat Paper Project comes to North Central’s studios and campus on Tuesday, Oct. 30. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in room 17 at Meiley-Swallow Hall, Cameron and Matott will demonstrate their project utilizing papermaking workshops to help veterans reconcile and share their personal experiences.

North Central College to honor businessman Matthew Brill with its 2012 Alumni Recognition Award during Homecoming Convocation Oct. 26.

North Central College is honoring Matthew Brill of Pottstown, Penn., with its 2012 Alumni Recognition Award.

Brill and five others will be recognized during North Central’s Homecoming Convocation at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the College’s Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.

The Alumni Recognition Award is given to a recent graduate of North Central College who has excelled in his or her field in a leadership capacity.
