Prospective students are invited to Visit Day on June 25

More than 40 Admission ambassadors are ready to conduct campus tours on Monday, Nov. 12 (Veterans Day), as part of Visit Day events for prospective new students. The Bookstore is just one stop on a tour of North Central College’s beautiful Naperville campus, along with Meiley-Swallow Hall, the Residence Hall/Recreation Center, the charming Boilerhouse Café, historic Old Main and other academic buildings, residence halls and athletic facilities.

On Nov. 8, the campus community is invited to view the 2011 documentary “Granito,” a North Central College Global Human Rights event, co-sponsored by the Office of International Programs, Cultural Events and the Leadership, Ethics & Values program. The free event takes place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in Smith Hall at Old Main.

An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 for the Lee Benson exhibit “Immortality 10,000 Years” in Schoenherr Gallery.

Complimentary refreshments will be served at the reception in the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The exhibit closes Sunday, Nov. 11.

North Central College’s Commuter Life program will host Cardinal Appreciation Day, formerly Commuter Appreciation Day, on Wednesday, Nov. 7, with special events to celebrate resident and commuter students.

Although the Commuter Life program was designed specifically to advocate for commuter students, the student group decided to change the name of its appreciation day to include all students.

Connelly, House congratulate North Central President Harold Wilde for leadership

The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates retiring North Central President Harold R. Wilde for his nearly 22 years of leadership.

The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates retiring North Central College President Harold R. Wilde for his nearly 22 years of leadership at the school.

The resolution sponsored by state Rep. Michael Connelly (R-Naperville) commemorates Wilde’s tenure as the ninth president in the College’s 151-year history. Wilde retires on Dec. 31 and will be succeeded by Dr. Troy D. Hammond. The resolution was adopted by the 97th General Assembly, and Connelly presented a copy of the resolution to Wilde Oct. 27 during the College’s Riverwalk Gateway dedication.

North Central College Scholar Louis Waldmeir ’13, majoring in German and minoring in history of ideas, presented research from his senior honors thesis at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, on Oct. 27. The presentation, titled “National Tradition and Local Meaning: The Relevance of German Beer Culture,” was given to an audience of students and faculty as a part of Heidelberg University’s series of German Club-sponsored events.

North Central College alumni and staff were guest speakers at the Echelon Leadership Summit, a one-day, community-driven leadership event held at the Northern Illinois University Naperville campus on Oct. 31. The leadership summit focused on six different tracks of interest—new leaders, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, organizations and more—with the goal of exploring new approaches to becoming effective leaders in today’s fast-paced world.
