Macek’s op-ed receives wide syndication

Steve Macek, North Central College associate professor of speech communication and coordinator of urban and suburban studies, authored an opinion piece, titled “Let’s not sacrifice our privacy on the altar of cyber security,” that has been picked up by various news outlets, from The Naperville Sun and Columbus Dispatch, to outlets in San Diego, Brooklyn, Texas, Kentucky and more. The piece was syndicated by the American Forum, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit that works to encourage more citizen debate on important societal issues.

Bryan Taylor earns award for outstanding service to residence life at Honors Convocation

Bryan Taylor received the Carleen Verstraete Outstanding Resident Student Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

Bryan Taylor, son of Sheryl Taylor of Cary, Ill., was awarded the Carleen Verstraete Outstanding Resident Student Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College. The award recognizes a student for outstanding service to residence life and is named in honor of Verstraete, a former resident assistant who was killed by a drunk driver shortly after her graduation in June 1990.

Devan Conness, daughter of Wanda and Mark Conness, of Ottawa, Ill., was awarded the Mark A. Reid Freshman Leadership Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

A freshman, Devan is majoring in human resource management at North Central College. She is a graduate of Ottawa Township High School.

Ryan Murphy earns Outstanding Major in Physics Award

Ryan Murphy received the Outstanding Major in Physics Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

Ryan Murphy, son of Ronald and Sharon Murphy of Buffalo Grove, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Physics Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

James Davidson earns Outstanding Major in Chemistry Award

James Davidson received the Outstanding Major in Chemistry Award during the 2013 Honors Convocation at North Central College.

James Davidson, son of Paul and Corinne of Lemont, Ill., was awarded the Outstanding Major in Chemistry Award during Honors Day May 14 at North Central College.

A senior and a student-veteran, James is majoring in chemistry at North Central College. He is a graduate of Lemont Township High School and a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
