Preparations for this Inaugural ceremony have given me the opportunity to reflect … the 10th president of North Central College. What an honor. It is truly an honor to be standing before you today.

Lou Corsino, North Central College professor of sociology, published an article in the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice.

Lou Corsino, North Central College professor of sociology, authored the article, “They Can’t Shoot Everyone: Italians, Social Capital, and Organized Crime in the Chicago Outfit,” in the May issue of the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice (Vol. 29 No. 2, 256-275).

The quarterly journal focuses on a critical issue in contemporary criminal justice in order to provide a cogent, thorough and timely exploration of the topic. Those issues include organized crime, community policing, gangs, white-collar crime and excessive police force.

North Central College sophomore Chris Pascoe exchanged tweets with Roberto Orci, screenwriter of the summer blockbuster “Star Trek: Into Darkness.”

North Central College sophomore Chris Pascoe exchanged tweets with Roberto Orci, the screenwriter and coproducer of the summer blockbuster “Star Trek: Into Darkness.”

Pascoe heard about a Verandah course offered by Jennifer Fredette, assistant professor of political science. The two-session noncredit course involved going to see the film as a group, then discussing how topics in the film related to the real-life War on Terror.

When North Central College presents its three musicals this summer, hundreds of children and adults from the community and College will take the stage as pirates and Indians, fairy princesses, disciples of Jesus, soldiers, lost boys, villains and more. Many in the cast have North Central connections as students, faculty, alumni and staff.

Gerald Gems, North Central College professor of health and physical education, published a chapter, article and book review; delivered presentations; and received a service award from the North American Society for Sport History.

His chapter, titled “Sport in the United States,” was published in a book edited by Claude Sobry and titled “Sports Governance in the World: A Socio-Historic Approach.” (Paris: Editions Le Manuscrit Press)

North Central College President Troy D. Hammond is one of some 63 outstanding alumni of the National Science Foundation’s highly competitive Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) to be honored and profiled by the prestigious organization upon the occasion of its 60th anniversary.
