Quinton Hoffert '13

Quinton Hoffert was awarded a U.S. State Department Critical Languages Scholarship, which funded a special intensive language program at Suzhou University in Jiangsu, China. He will continue a two-year study of Chinese at Beijing Foreign Studies University this fall and return to the United States to complete a master’s degree in a Chinese translation program.

Emily Jewison '13

Emily Jewison landed a backstage role at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago with “The Jungle Book,” a world premier musical based on Disney’s animated movie. She started as a stage management intern and was hired as a young performer supervisor when the show began previews in June. Coincidentally, the other young performer supervisor was fellow alum Kate Cora Clark ’08. The pair helped Mowgli and Little Girl into their costumes, supervised them during the show and met their parents at the end of the evening.

Three education faculty selected to help with new teacher assessment process

North Central College education faculty Julie Carballo, Kelli Diaz, Mary Beth Ressler are named scorers for new state-mandated teacher performance assessment.

Three members of North Central College’s education faculty have been selected by Pearson Education, Inc. to be trained as scorers for the edTPA, the new state-mandated, pre-service Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA).

Commencement 2013: Traditions continue for largest graduating class ever

President Troy D. Hammond in June presided over his first Commencement ceremony, the academic finale for the Class of 2013. The Residence Hall/Recreation Center accommodated an enthusiastic audience to witness the ceremony for the largest class of undergraduates ever: 628 students who completed requirements for bachelor’s degrees, in addition to the 104 receiving advanced degrees.

The 2013 Concert Choir Graduation Concert on May 31 evolved into an alumni reunion event when dozens of choir and music alumni joined parents, faculty and staff for a final performance with conductor Jeordano “Pete” Martinez, now professor of music emeritus.

The Princeton Review has once again named North Central College a Best Midwestern College in its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges.

The Princeton Review has once again named North Central College a Best Midwestern College in its annual survey of the nation’s best colleges.

North Central College is among institutions profiled by The Princeton Review, which publishes “The Best 378 Colleges, 2014 Edition.”

The Princeton Review’s distinctions are based on surveys of 126,000 college students nationwide. The Princeton Review began surveying college students and publishing its findings in 1992.
