North Central College appointed five new tenure-track faculty members for the 2013-2014 academic year:

Alumnus building new facility to court success

Robin Henders ’03, co-owner of Five Star Tennis, is pursuing his long-held dream of opening a tennis facility for his rapidly expanding business. Five Star Tennis is building a 40,000-square-foot indoor tennis facility in Plainfield near 119th Street and Normantown Road. A grand opening is scheduled for January 1, 2014.

Proud to be a member of the Class of 1963

Time flies when you’re having fun. That might be the motto of the Class of 1963, the latest North Central College graduating class to be inducted into the 50-Year Club at Homecoming.

Joe Norton '10

Joe Norton is full-time head coach for the Knox College wrestling program, located in Galesburg, IL. He served as a graduate assistant for the wrestling program at North Central College. As a student-athlete at North Central, he had 94 career victories on the mat and was a four-time NCAA regional place winner. He was ranked as high as ninth as an individual and was recipient of the Hammer Award in recognition of outstanding commitment and work ethic in NCAA Division III.

Michael Swengel '08

Michael Swengel was appointed director of vocal music and show choir for Mt. Zion High School in Mt. Zion, IL. He will lead Swingsations, Les Femmes, Sound System and Vocal Trax show choirs. Swengel is a Harvard, IL, native and previously worked in Milton, WI, where he spent three years teaching vocal music and show choir to grades 7 through 12. In 2007, he completed his student teaching experience at Bednarcik Junior High in Oswego, IL and Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, IL. He brings to Mt.

Colin Daly '05

Colin Daly is assistant director of first-year student success at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also had a featured role in a television commercial for Potowatomi Casino and a role in the upcoming independent film “Zombie Frat House,” produced by Dirty Job Films. Courtney Blake is a language arts interventionist at Rollins Elementary School in Aurora, IL.

Sandra Pieta M ’11

Sandra Pieta M ’11 is director of institutional research at Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO. She earned an M.B.A from North Central and an M.A. in economics from the University of Missouri in Columbia in 2013.

Kai Ruggeri '06

Kai Ruggeri is leading the Global Health Access Policy project, which was developed in response to reports on the rising cost of health care globally by the 2010 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Observer. Kristen Soforic ’14 was a 2013 summer intern for the project and assisted with research leadership, helping coordinate more than 50 people who collaborated on global health research. She was also involved in the development of the 2014 phase of the project and the 2013 activities, which included a mix of research, lectures and a conference.

Amanda Czernecki joined the weekend morning team to report traffic on NBC5 TV in Chicago.
