North Central stages opera double bill “Trial by Jury” and “The Sorcerer”

North Central College’s Summer Light Opera presents Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury” and “The Sorcerer” July 11-13, 17-19 with actors from the community.

North Central College’s Summer Light Opera presents the Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas “Trial by Jury” and “The Sorcerer.”

Six performances will be staged at 7:30 p.m. July 11, 12 and 17-19 and at 2 p.m. July 13 in North Central’s theatre at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville. North Central College computer science students served as featured speakers at a recent Open Gov Hack Night in downtown Chicago.

North Central College computer science students served as featured speakers at a recent Open Gov Hack Night in downtown Chicago. They presented a web application they had developed as part of their capstone seminar project with Caroline St. Clair, professor of computer science.  The students designed their app for Englewood Codes, an initiative that helps Chicago’s Englewood area teens learn about computer science.

Every Thursday this summer, Chartwells Dining Services will offer its luncheon Boilerhouse Barbecue, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Old Main Plaza outside the Rolland Center Boilerhouse Café.

For just $5, lunch includes your choice of a main entrée, chips and beverage. The selection of entrées features a ¼ lb. hamburger, hot dog, bratwurst, chicken breast and veggie burger. For an additional dollar, you can add a second entrée.

All students, staff, faculty and neighbors are welcome. Check out the next barbecue Thursday, June 26.



North Central College students benefit from gift of Shigeru Kawai piano

North Central College student vocalists and musicians are benefiting from the gift of a Shigeru Kawai piano.

North Central College student vocalists and musicians are benefitting from the gift of a Shigeru Kawai piano, one of the world’s most exquisite instruments.

The College acquired the SK-EX model concert grand piano in fall 2013 through the generosity of alumna Jane Koten ’55. Thirteen students performed at a dedication recital in Koten Chapel on June 7, including pianists who played the instrument and vocalists and other musicians who were accompanied by a faculty member performing on the piano.

North Central College’s first radiation therapy majors start Northwestern program in Chicago

First-ever radiation therapy majors will enter Northwestern Memorial Hospital’s one-year clinical program to prepare for health science careers.

Erin Fitzgerald ’15 and Martyna Lach ’15 will spend their senior year preparing for a career they’ve only dreamed about—becoming radiation therapists who will help treat cancer patients. Both were selected for a highly competitive one-year program offered by Northwestern Memorial Hospital School of Radiation Therapy in Chicago. They entered North Central College’s 3 + 1 Radiation Therapy program as first-year students. After spending three years on campus, the pair will complete their North Central degrees after one year in an accredited radiation therapy clinical school.

In addition to the 815 North Central College students who received their degrees at Commencement, a highlight was the presentation of four special awards.

North Central College has named its Dean’s List of scholars for the 2014 spring term.

North Central College has named its Dean’s List of scholars for the 2014 spring term. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, undergraduate students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.6 (4.0=A) for the term and be enrolled as full-time students.
