Gerald Gems, North Central College professor of health and physical education, this spring released a book titled “Boxing: A Concise History of the Sweet Science,” published by Rowman & Littlefield.

Music education program receives Collegiate Chapter Growth Award from NAfME

North Central College’s music education program and its student chapter were recognized for membership growth by the National Association for Music Education.

North Central College’s music education program and its student chapter were recently recognized by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the professional organization for music educators.

The North Central College chapter was presented with a NAfME Collegiate Chapter Growth Award for 2013-2014. Awarded to chapters that increase their membership over the previous year, the distinction recognizes programs that have “demonstrated a high level of dedication and effort to the benefit of members’ professional development.”

Ed Maher, visiting lecturer in sociology at North Central College, co-presented a conference paper, titled “Iron Age Village Economy and Possible Literacy: Preliminary Remarks on the Faunal Data from Khirbet Summeily,” at the annual conference for the American Schools of Oriental Research in November 2013.
