Charles Bartsch ’73 and John Giannini ’84 are two of seven alumni who will be honored during the 2013 Homecoming Convocation on Friday, Oct. 25. They are two of this year’s five recipients of Outstanding Alumni Awards.
Bartsch specializes in economic development and revitalization of brownfield sites. He works as a senior advisor to Mathy Stanislaus, assistant administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He studied political science at North Central College and later earned a master’s degree in urban policy and planning from the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Giannini has developed a well-rounded career as a coach, author, educator, and motivator. He has built a powerhouse Division I basketball program as head coach at La Salle University and earlier this year took his team to the Sweet 16, its deepest run into the NCAA tournament since 1955. He studied psychology at North Central, holds an M. S. in physical education from the University of North Texas and a Ph.D. in kinesiology with a specialization in sports psychology from the University of Illinois.
Others being honored during Homecoming 2013 are Outstanding Alumni Award recipients Steven Hoeft ’73, the Rev. Dr. Tracy Smith ’90 Malone and William Soper ’68, M.D. This year’s Alumni Recognition Award recipient is Josh Stumpenhorst ’03, and the Rev. Dr. Wilber C. Harr ’30 will be honored with a posthumous Wall of Witness recognition.10-21-2013
