Feb. 22, 2011—New York-based all-female a cappella group Anonymous 4 will perform its unique blend of classical and contemporary music May 6 at North Central College.
Anonymous 4 will present its “Sisters in Spirit” program, traveling from the old world to new and creatively weaving 13th century polyphony and sacred Latin song with modern Anglo-American tunes.
The performance begins at 8 p.m. Friday, May 6, in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville. Tickets are $40 and $30; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.
Marsha Genensky, Ruth Cunningham, Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek and Susan Hellauer—the four women of Anonymous 4—utilize their musical, literary and historical expertise to specially craft each performance, all while blending their vocals to create an unearthly sound. Though renowned for its unrivaled medieval repertoire, Anonymous 4 reaches seamlessly into contemporary music, performing works by Peter Maxwell Davies, John Tavener, Steve Reich and Richard Einhorn.
The ensemble has performed as part of major concert series and festivals throughout North America, Europe and Asia, including appearances at Tanglewood, Wolftrap, BBC Proms, Edinburgh Festival and the Brisbane Biennial. Anonymous 4’s award-winning recordings have claimed the top spot on Billboard’s classical chart and sold nearly 1.5 million copies worldwide. Visit anonymous4.com to learn more about the artists.
North Central College’s 2010-2011 Sesquicentennial Fine & Performing Arts Season is supported by a generous grant from the Illinois Arts Council. USG Corporation and Navistar, Inc. are underwriting sponsors.
