The rock band Cheap Trick has posted to its official band website 10 "recently unearthed vintage" pictures of its September 1978 concert at North Central College.
The photographs were taken by Mark Reagen during the performance at North Central 33 years ago, when the band was on the cusp of greatness. The single "Surrender" was climbing the charts, having been released on the album "Heaven Tonight" that year, and the band had toured Japan, where it had a strong following. But this was before the live version of "I Want You To Want Me" from "Cheap Trick at Budokan" was released in 1979, propelling the band to superstardom.
A number of big-name rock bands and popular music artists performed at North Central College during the 1970s. Steely Dan, Linda Ronstadt, Harry Chapin, Tom Waits, Steve Goodman, Sha Na Na, comedian/banjo player Steve Martin, The Carpenters, Styx, Gordon Lightfoot and Frank Zappa are among the artists who performed in Pfeiffer Hall or Merner Field House during the era.
