Feb. 16, 2011—North Central College welcomes Chicago violinist Rachel Barton Pine for a rousing performance of classical pieces April 30 in the College’s acoustically stunning Wentz Concert Hall.

The night’s performance features Barton Pine accompanied by pianist Matthew Hagle for a program that will include renditions of Franz Liszt’s “La lugubre Gondola” and “Grand Duo Concertante.” The program includes Liszt’s “Die drei Zigeuner,” “Elegy No. 1” and “Elegy No. 2;” Leos Janacek’s “Sonata;” and Maurice Ravel’s “Tzigane.”
Barton Pine has received worldwide acclaim for her virtuosic technical mastery, lustrous tone and perceptive performances. Her passion for research allows her to bring emotionally charged, historically informed interpretations to her diverse repertoire, and her work as a philanthropist continues to inspire the next generation of artists and concert-goers.
The Washington Post says she is “an exciting, boundary-defying performer … (who) displays a power and confidence that puts her in the top echelon of recitalists.” Barton Pine made her solo debut at age 7 and has worked with numerous famous conductors, including Zubin Mehta, Erich Leinsdorf, Placido Domingo and Charles Dutoit. Her performance on April 30 is one day after she performs with Chicago-based metal band Earthen Grave at North Central. Earthen Grave’s performance begins at 8 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the College’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave., Naperville.
