Music education majors Eliseo Martinez ’10 and Amanda Broaddus ’10 will achieve their dreams of teaching music next year. Broaddus, the 2010 Outstanding Major in Music Education, will teach at the high school she attended, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in Gibson City, IL. She completed her student teaching at York High School last fall and when her interviewers from Gibson City asked her to demonstrate her conducting skills, she returned to York to teach for a day. Her former choral students at York were so supportive of her that they came to school on senior skip day to perform and help her attain the job. Martinez, the 2009 Outstanding Major in Music Education, received two job offers on the same day and accepted a position at Bardwell Elementary School in East Aurora, IL, where he had been a student teacher. “They were very supportive of me getting the position,” he says.
