Etienne Mashuli was honored with the 2011 Outstanding Major in Political Science Award during Honors Day May 17 at North Central College.
Mashuli plans to graduate from North Central in 2013 with a double-major in political science and economics. He is an international student from Rwanda who began his studies at North Central in January 2009.
As a student at North Central, Mashuli has worked with the College's chapter of the Model United Nations. He's been a contributing writer to The Chronicle student newspaper and has presented research at the College's Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research.
Mashuli, along with William Muck, assistant professor of political science, co-authored an op-ed piece about the Robin Hood Tax campaign that was published on the website of an international non-governmental organization (NGO) focused on global poverty. Their comments about the proposed Robin Hood Tax, a small fee on all global financial market transactions to raise money to help fight poverty, were made in the context of the 2010 G20 Summit in Seoul, Korea.
