Gerald Gems, North Central College professor of health and physical education, delivered two presentations in December 2011 at the Bangladesh Institute of Sport Sciences in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He also was inducted as an international fellow of the institute, along with another American and international scholars from Turkey, Denmark, Malaysia, Great Britain and Spain. The events were attended by a host of sports dignitaries and the Bangladesh minister of commerce.
His first presentation, titled “Wellness: The Path to Health and Happiness,” was given Dec. 12 and the director of the institute asked to publish it. His second presentation, titled “Title IX: American Means to Gender Equity in Sport,” was given Dec. 13.
Gems has been a member of North Central College’s faculty since 1988. He earned his B.A. from Northeastern Illinois University, his M.S. from the University of Arizona and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland.
