Daryn Harrell, a musical theatre major at North Central College, has been cast in a production by Timber Lake Playhouse, the oldest continuously operating professional summer theatre in Illinois.
Harrell, of Peoria, will star in “Children of Eden,” a musical by Stephen Schwartz, the Oscar- and Grammy-winning composer who has written the hit Broadway musicals “Godspell” and “Wicked” and music for the films “Pocahontas” and “Enchanted.” “Children of Eden” is based on the Book of Genesis and is one of five summer productions by Timber Lake Playhouse, based in Mount Carroll.
In fall 2011, Harrell will begin her senior year at North Central. She has appeared in the College’s productions of “Elephant’s Graveyard” and “The Wedding Singer.” She also sings alto with North Central’s Concert Choir and in March performed with the choir during its first tour of Europe. The choir performed at St. Peter’s Basilica at Vatican City in Rome, at St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice and at concerts in Florence and Siena.
Musical theatre is among more than 55 majors and minors offered at North Central College, where students have opportunities to explore the connections among theatre, dance and music. North Central’s musical theatre faculty members are part of a professional network that extends throughout the vibrant theatre community in Chicago and beyond. Students are trained to earn professional roles by developing their audition skills, and have opportunities to direct shows in the College’s four major theater and music venues.
Timber Lake Playhouse is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season.
