May 5, 2011—Children in elementary, middle and high school can take advantage of exciting camps in broadcasting, computers, theatre, athletics and more this summer at North Central College.

Registration is underway for academic, arts and athletics camps for children age 5 and older. Camps begin in June and continue through mid-August. Visit northcentralcollege.edu/summercamps to view a complete catalog or call the Office of Community Development at 630-637-5560 for details.

“Top-notch facilities, gifted faculty and coaches, and award-winning student assistants are the essence of the summer camp program at North Central College,” says Renee Miklosik, summer camps program director. “Whether on the playing field, in the classroom or on stage we’re committed to providing wonderful and memorable experiences for all.”

Course fees vary, and some camps include overnight accommodations. New camps and workshops for summer 2011 include courses in leadership, the mathematics of art, photography, tennis and wrestling. Such popular courses as Computer Animation with Flash and Introduction to Game Programming encourage creativity and develop skills.

The College's award-winning student-run radio station WONC-FM 89.1 offers a workshop that allows middle school and high school students to broadcast live on the air, learn how a radio station operates and visit professional stations in the Chicago area.

Two separate week-long musical theatre workshops for junior high and high school students provide fast-paced, upbeat classes and instruction in acting, singing and dancing taught by seasoned educators and industry professionals.

Children and adults can participate in three community musicals this summer. “Annie” for ages 8 and up will be presented July 15-17 and July 22-24. “The Gondoliers,” for ages 17 and up, will be performed July 28-31. “Hello, Dolly!” for ages 14 and up will be presented July 29-31 and Aug. 5-7. Vocal auditions for all shows will be held May 7-8, and dance auditions will be held May 10. Callbacks are May 14.

Sports camps include boys basketball, grades three to 10; girls basketball, ages 7-14; baseball, ages 5 to 16; and tennis, grades two to 12. New this year is wrestling, for ages 7-14. Children involved in athletic camps will focus on developing and improving fundamental skills through scrimmages and competitions and learn the importance of conditioning and mental preparation. All sports camps—which also include soccer, cross country and track and field—are coached by North Central College varsity coaches and assistants and assisted by varsity athletes.
