North Central College students showcase talent in Senior Art Show

Artwork by 10 North Central College art students is featured in the annual Senior Art Show, May 10 through June 10. The 2013 Senior Art Show features the diverse body of work created by North Central College art students, who will be graduating with a bachelor’s degree in studio art or art education.

The exhibit is free, open to the public and on display May 10 through June 10 in two locations: at the College’s Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St., and Oesterle Library Gallery, 320 E. School St. The senior artists will greet visitors during a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, in both galleries; complimentary refreshments will be served.

Media by the featured artists range from paintings, drawings, sculpture and ceramics to nontraditional media like food and cake decorating material.

Exhibitors for the 2013 Senior Art Show are:

•    Annie Adamski of Fox Lake, Ill., majoring in art education, will showcase drawings and 3D media.
•    Jesse Barr of Oswego, Ill., majoring in art education, will focus on 3D and mixed media.
•    Molly Christine of Itasca, Ill., majoring in studio art, will draw on nontraditional media such as food and cake decorating material.
•    Alyssa Coy of Oswego, majoring in art education, will exhibit scratchboards and paintings.
•    Tamantha Francis of Plainfield, Ill., majoring in art education, will present mixed media on large surfaces such as wood boards and drywall.
•    Katherine Friedrich of Romeoville, Ill., majoring in studio art, will include drawings and 3D works.
•    Robyn Mikyska of Downers Grove, Ill., with a double major in studio art and psychology, will showcase 3D media such as ceramics, wood and wire.
•    Kathleen Pauley of North Aurora, Ill., majoring in studio art, will feature paintings, ceramics and drawings.
•    Samantha Rapp of Hinsdale, Ill., majoring in art education, will display mixed media.
•    Jeremy Thurlby of Montgomery, Ill., majoring in studio art, will exhibit sculpture and ceramics.

Art, art history and art education are among more than 55 undergraduate majors offered at North Central College. Art students at North Central College learn traditional and contemporary media; engage in analytical, critical and abstract thinking; and learn to communicate ideas visually. Students attend gallery and museum openings and exhibits in Naperville and Chicago, meet visiting artists, enter juried exhibitions and gain an academic foundation for graduate study in studio art, art education, art history, art therapy, arts administration, art criticism and visual communications.
