During spring term, Oesterle Library will display exhibits in its lobby that highlight professional publications by writers in the College community and selections from the books and resources in the “Bridging Cultures” Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys collection. Exhibit descriptions include:

Community Publications
Gerald Gems, professor of health and physical education. “Sport and the Italian American Quest for Whiteness” in Sport in History, 2012.

Tom Gill, instructional media coordinator:

Neil Nicholson, assistant professor of mathematics. Coauthor with Mary Embry and Deborah Scarfino of a chapter titled “Lasting Learning: Measuring Impact Through Success and Sustainability” in the book, “Service Learning in Higher Education: Connecting the Global to the Local,” 2013.

Ashley Popp ’11, sport management major. Coauthor with Chia-Ju Yen of a paper titled “The Global Transformation of Belly Dancing: A Cross-Cultural Investigation of Counter Hegemonic Responses” in the journal, Physical Culture and Sport. Studies and Research, October 2012.

Hillary Shulman, assistant professor of speech communication. Coauthor with Maria Knight Lapinski, Erin K. Maloney and Mary Braz of an article titled “Testing the Effects of Social Norms and Behavioral Privacy on Hand Washing: A Field Experiment” in the journal, Human Communication Research, January 2013.

Jinai Sun, visiting assistant professor of Chinese. “Chinese as ‘Species’ in the American High School: An Organizational Case Study” dissertation published by The Pennsylvania State University, August 2011.

Gregory Wolf, Dennis and Jean Bauman Professor in the Humanities and professor of German.
•    Authored biographies of Howie Krist, Ken Burkhart, Guy Bush, Ben Cantwell, Red Munger and Jim Mooney in “Baseball Biography Project,” 2012.
•    “The Last Great St. Louis Brown” in The Hardball Times, Oct. 11, 2012.

Theme Display
Oesterle Library was awarded the “Bridging Cultures” Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association—a collection of books, films and resources to familiarize people with the faith and cultures of Muslims worldwide.
