May 22, 2012—Samuel Jaros of Naperville was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Economics Award during Honors Day May 15 at North Central College.
Jaros is a senior with majors in four areas: mathematics, finance, economics and actuarial science. He is the son of Gary and Nicholette Jaros and a graduate of Waubonsie Valley High School.
He was part of a three-student team that conducted summer research with a member of North Central’s faculty and a member of the Chinese Center for Disease Control. They investigated mathematical models for determining the impact of chicken pox and shingles vaccines on the U.S. population. Their research results became part of a presentation, titled “Mathematical Modeling of the Transmission of the Varicella-Zoster Virus,” that was presented at the 2012 National Conference on Undergraduate Research and North Central’s Rall Symposium for Undergraduate Research.
Jaros also tutors students in mathematics, statistics and business statistics.
