North Central College welcomes Theatreworks USA on April 21 for two family-friendly performances of “Nate the Great.”

Two matinee performances will be presented at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in North Central’s Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $10/adults and $5/children under 12; call the North Central College Box Office at 630-637-SHOW (7469) or visit northcentralcollege.edu/showtix. For an additional $2 per ticket, patrons can enjoy an ice cream reception from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the day of the show.

Theatreworks USA introduces the latest and greatest in the grand tradition of crime-solving detectives: Nate the Great. This pint-size young detective has found lost balloons, books, slippers, chickens and even goldfish. But when his neighbor Annie asks for help in locating her missing painting, it takes all of Nate’s heroism to solve the toughest case of his career.

Although Nate initially believes that great detectives work alone, he finds that unraveling mysteries is easier—and a lot more fun—with a partner and a big plate of pancakes.

“Nate the Great” is a new musical about teamwork and friendship based on the first volume in Marjorie Weinman Sharmat’s classic book series. The new production is presented by the creative teams behind Theatreworks USA’s “The Mystery of King Tut” and “Junie B. Jones.”

This 60-minute musical is recommended for children in grades kindergarten through fourth. A study guide for teachers is available on the Theatreworks USA website and includes topics to talk about before and after the show.

New York City-based Theatreworks USA has a distinguished history of actors, writers, directors and designers, including four-time Tony-winning director Jerry Zaks; writers Marta Kauffman and David Crane of TV’s “Friends”; and Tony-winning actors John Lloyd Young, Roger Bart, Chuck Cooper and John Glover. Performers F. Murray Abraham, Henry Winkler and Judy Kuhn also got their start with Theatreworks USA.
