Grant Swanson teaches sixth grade at St. Francis Indian School on the Rosebud Lakota Reservation in South Dakota. After his first year of teaching under contract with Teach For America, he worked as a teacher-ranger at Yellowstone National Park. As a result, he was able to take his students on a weeklong field trip to Yellowstone through the program Expedition: Yellowstone! a curriculum-based educational program about the importance of the park. In summer 2013, Swanson started a program called Middlebury Breadloaf at Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, working toward a master’s degree in literature.
