Print Email Share
Four more service trips are planned during spring break, in addition to the Habitat trips. One group heads to Bogota, Colombia; two student trips will work with the Center for Student Missions in Philadelphia and Chicago; and one group will serve with L’Arche assisting mentally disabled adults. Nine students and one staff person are traveling to Colombia, where they'll work alongside a family that runs an outreach ministry through a local church in the capital city. Students will utilize their skills in web design and managing a newspaper to help the family and community, as well as present a performance for children in the area and complete small construction and rehab projects. Members include Tone Jankowski ’10, Sunny Gill ’10, Brian Waters ’11, Amanda Domingez ’11, Veronica Blue ’12, Angie Snodgrass ’11, Mallory Blanchard ’10, Chad Comello ’10 and Tim Whitney ’11. The staff member is Ebony Jones, area hall director, Rall/Geiger Residence Halls. The two student trips heading to Philadelphia and Chicago will help the Center for Student Missions in those cities. Students will live in the city, learn about the city and become part of the solutions of the city by offering their time and energy in supporting indigenous ministry sites, such as food centers and homeless shelters. The eight-member Philadelphia group includes Katie Brouch ’12, Kelly Carew ’10, Abbey Smith ’12, Caitlin Ballard ’13, Megan Scanlan ’12, Kat Hamilton ’11, Danielle Clark ’11 and Lacey Watson ’11. Driving to Chicago are Carolyn Englund ’12, Colleen White ’10, Luke Kinney ’12, Jenny Ciesiulka ’12, Guy Lopresti ’11. The final trip of six volunteers will work with L'Arche in Jacksonville, Fla. North Central volunteers will be assisting in an adult mentally disabled community. The students are Megan King ’12, Liz Hasseld ’12, David Johnson ’12, Ryan Mueller ’12 and Carissa Boekeloo ’13. Jen Baur, senior accountant, will join the trip. All four trips are coordinated through the Office of Ministry and Service. Photo: Previous L’Arche trip, Allison Beckham ’09 (right)
