North Central College is the host of a traveling exhibit about the real-life alchemists and physicians featured in J.K. Rowling’s best-selling Harry Potter books.
The first 100 attendees to the April 12 reception, noon to 1:30 p.m., will receive a free pass for two weekday admissions to Hollywood Palms Cinema, and everyone can enjoy refreshments and participate in a trivia game. The trivia game runs throughout the exhibit, April 10 to May 21, with prizes that include tickets to the opening weekend of the film “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” at Hollywood Palms in Naperville and a selection of North Central gear.*
Titled “Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine,” the free traveling exhibit will be on display in the library’s Dr. Lora L. Tyson Education Curriculum Resource Center during regular library hours. The exhibition is composed of six, full-color graphic panels developed and produced by the National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health. Using materials from the library’s History of Medicine collections, the exhibit explores Harry Potter’s world, its roots in Renaissance science, and the ethical questions that affected not only the wizards of Harry Potter, but also the historical thinkers featured in the series.
