During the Service Awards event May 21, Bill Muck and Heather Coon were named recipients of the Clarence F. Dissinger Award for Junior Faculty and Senior Faculty, respectively. The awards recognize two faculty for their distinguished teaching, leadership and service to the College “above and beyond the call of duty.” Muck joined the faculty in 2008 and is assistant professor of political science. Students who nominated him for the Junior Faculty Award said, his “enthusiasm is highly unparalleled, always energetic and engaging, most enthusiastic professor I ever met, genuinely interested and excited about the topics he teaches.” Another student said, “Taking this class has been one of the valuable … experiences of my college career,” and another wrote, “Many of my views were challenged and have changed… . He continues to inspire me and my fellow classmates.” Coon, a member of the faculty since 2000, is associate professor of psychology and was granted tenure in 2006. Students who nominated her for the Senior Faculty Award said, she is “one of the most involved professors that I have ever seen on campus with students, one of the most amazing people I have ever had the pleasure of encountering, one of the most influential people in my life.” Another student said, “She listens and cares about everything students have to say,” while another student added, “This professor is a wonderful advisor, an extremely involved faculty member, and a genuinely kind and helpful person.”
