You’re probably aware the College is committed to recycling and sustainable practices. But did you know the maintenance department is using recycled products in small carpentry projects on campus?
The bar in the photo was designed using leftover sapelli wood panels from the Wentz Concert Hall and Fine Arts Center and a spare countertop from the Res/Rec Center project. And the creative final product fits the ambiance of the Fine Arts Center lobby.
Other small-scale projects that utilize sustainable products are the stand-alone athletic history cases in the lobby of the Res/Rec Center. The fiber material used for the background is made of recycled plastic bottles. The cases are lit with LED strand lights, which are nearly 30 percent more energy-efficient than incandescent lighting. More projects using the same practices are sure to come.
