Haley’s studies have evolved. Her interest in Spanish led to global and environmental studies. “Global studies is very interdisciplinary. If you have other areas of interest, you can tailor this major to focus on those interests.”
Haley chose the developing states track in global studies to complement her interest in sustainable development in Latin America. Her studies abroad took her to Peru and Guatemala.
“Peru was one of the best experiences I’ve had at college. I took classes in Spanish on Latin American development and politics and connected with people.” Her first of two trips to Guatemala involved working with a professor to create documentaries about the Guatemalan economy. She secured a Richter grant from North Central for her second trip to research alternative agriculture and biodiversity.
“Our faculty went the extra mile for me and will for anyone who’s passionate about their future.”
