Whitney was already collecting paychecks as a broadcaster when she graduated from North Central College. An internship at Naperville Community Television (NCTV17) turned into a paid reporting position at the start of her senior year, giving the broadcast communication major yet another highlight on her already impressive résumé. She also worked at WONC—the College’s student-run radio station—and Cardinal Video.
“We don’t realize how lucky we are,” Whitney says. “WONC and Cardinal Video are such great stepping stones to build a career in broadcasting. You learn all the aspects of radio from your courses and working at the station. You’re ready to fly as soon as you graduate.”
Whitney, who also majored in interactive media studies, won numerous Intercollegiate Broadcasting Awards for her work at WONC.
“I hope to work in television and communications the rest of my life,” she says. “North Central has allowed me to study different areas—I feel very prepared for whatever I choose to do.”
