Ernst is cited as expert in Crain’s feature
Sep 06, 2012
Gary Ernst, North Central College Professor of International Business and Marketing Emeritus, was cited as an expert source in a Sept. 3 Crain’s Chicago Business feature, titled “Logistics industry procures new jobs.”
Writer Emily Lambert reports that the industry of logistics is expanding dramatically, despite the economic downturn, and companies are scrambling for salespeople. New hires are primarily young graduates who work on commission. Ernst noted that many college graduates are reluctant to take sales jobs and work on commission as many “simply don’t have the confidence in themselves yet.”
Ermst retired in June 2011 after 25 years on North Central College’s faculty. During his teaching career, he established the College’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) chapter, the Entrepreneurship Institute, an entrepreneurship major and the Self-Employment in the Arts Conference. He was named Coleman Foundation Professor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business in 1999, received three Dissinger Teacher of the Year Awards and was recognized with the Harold and Eva White First Citizen of the College Award in 2008.
At his retirement, his title was Coleman Foundation Professor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business, professor of international business and marketing, and chair of management and marketing.
