Dettman exhibits pastels, paintings, sketches in area gallery

Mary Dettman, North Central College assistant director of marketing graphic designer, was a featured artist at the Water Street Gallery in Rockford on Sept. 7. Held Friday afternoons during the summer and in conjunction with the Rockford City Market, the one-day show features the work of local artists.

Dettman exhibited several pastels, oil paintings and sketches she’s created during the past few years. An artist since early childhood, Dettman has exhibited her work and studied at Purdue University, where she earned a B.A. in visual communication design.

At North Central, she creates art and design on her computer as a member of the Office of Marketing and Communications. But after hours, she enjoys picking up a brush and pencils and joining other artists—like her aunt and cousin who co-founded Water Street Gallery with other artists—for weekend painting ventures.
