Macek publishes article and op-ed, gives talk on city planning

Sep 24, 2012

Steve Macek, North Central College associate professor of speech communication and coordinator of urban and suburban studies, had an article published in the September issue of Z Magazine about Northeastern Illinois University Associate Professor of Justice Studies Loretta Capeheart and her battle for academic freedom.

He also wrote an op-ed about Capeheart’s case that has been syndicated by American Forum and was recently picked up by the Naperville Sun and Southwest News-Herald (see page 6).

In addition, Macek gave a talk, titled “City Planning & the Development of Chicago,” as part of the annual History Author Series presented by the Museums at Lisle Station and The Lisle Library District on Sept. 22. His talk—which he co-presented with Benet Haller, director of Urban Design and Planning at the City of Chicago—was the first in a series of fall programs held at the Museums at Lisle Station Park and feature authors who specialize in Chicago history.

Macek has been teaching at North Central College since 2002. He earned a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.
