North Central honors William D. Soper '68 with Outstanding Alumni Award

North Central College is honoringWilliam D. Soper '68 with Outstanding Alumni Award with a 2013 Outstanding Alumni Award.
William D. Soper, M.D. ’68 is a board-certified general surgeon with more than twenty five years of experience in the practice of general surgery. He received his medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago and completed his surgical residency at the University of Illinois Medical Center.
Dr. Soper also completed a two-year Fellowship in Transplant Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Following his training, Dr. Soper served as Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Illinois Medical Group and as Associate Director of Transplantation at Northwestern Memorial Hospital for 12 years. He has been practicing general surgery in the northwest suburbs since 1994 and has held several leadership positions at area hospitals including Chief of General Surgery at Northwest Community Hospital and President of the Illinois Transplant Society.
Additionally, he has held leadership positions in many other local and national organizations including the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Cancer Society Reach to Recovery Program. He has published numerous articles in national journals in the areas of transplantation and general surgery and is a member of many national surgical societies. Dr. Soper is experienced in all types of general surgery with special interest in dialysis access surgery, hernia, breast, gallbladder and colon surgery as well as advanced laparoscopic surgery of the abdomen.
