Keating to appear on CSPAN-3 Oct. 13
Oct 11, 2012
Ann Durkin Keating, North Central College Dr. C. Frederick Toenniges Professor of History, will appear on CSPAN-3 at 9:45 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, Oct. 13. She will give a lecture and Q&A for approximately one hour about her newest book, “Rising up from Indian Country: The Battle of Fort Dearborn and the Birth of Chicago.” Her lecture was prerecorded with an audience at the Niles Public Library on Sept. 12.
Appearing on CSPAN was a first for Keating. CSPAN-3 routinely broadcasts presentations of historians’ books, especially books that have been in the news. Keating says she’s always hoped to get a chance to do such a presentation and suspects the Wall Street Journal full-page review in August of her book led to the opportunity.
She is coeditor of “The Encyclopedia of Chicago” and author of several books, including “Chicagoland: City and Suburbs in the Railroad Age” and “Chicago Neighborhoods and Suburbs: A Historical Guide.” She also is coauthor of “North Central College: 150 Years. A Promising Start.”
Keating has been a member of North Central’s faculty since 1991. She received her B.A. from the University of Illinois and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
