Alcohol Awareness Week features giveaways, games, shows

North Central College’s Dyson Wellness Center is sponsoring Alcohol Awareness Week Oct. 15-19 with daily activities, including the free theater performance “Erasing the Distance,” film screening, games, food and multiple giveaways.

Check out these activities; no reservations or tickets are needed to attend any events.

Monday  
Erasing the Distance” theatrical performance
8:15 p.m., Madden Theatre: Seen by more than 35,000 people, “Erasing the Distance” uses the power of performance to disarm stigma, spark dialogue, educate and promote healing related to mental health. The performances are based on true stories of people who have battled alcohol addiction and other mental health illnesses. When you attend, you’ll be in the running for a free prize.

Tuesday
Wheel of Celebrity
Noon-1 p.m. Kaufman Dining Hall, 4:45-6 p.m. The Cage: In this interactive game, students will seek out giveaways and be kept guessing while learning how alcohol and its consequences have affected famous celebrities.

Wednesday
Wellness Wednesday
Noon-1 p.m., Kaufman Dining Hall: Learn more about alcohol and be on the lookout for free Alcohol Awareness T-shirts.            
Dinner & A Movie
6:30 p.m. dinner, 7 p.m. film, Res/Rec Center, third floor: Enjoy a free dinner and screening of the 2011 film, “The Rum Diary” with Johnny Depp.

Thursday  
Alcohol Bingo
6 p.m., Harold and Eva White Activities Center, Banquet Hall: Have fun winning free prizes and learning more about alcohol abuse and its potential consequences.  

Friday
Sober Oktober Party
6-9 p.m., Jefferson Plaza: Join members of Campus Safety, Residence Life, WONC and Dyson Wellness Center’s peer health educators in a fun night of faux DUI simulations, alcohol goggles, trivia games, free prizes and seasonal refreshments.
